The Ten Rules of Networking 1. Constantly back-up the hard drive and schedule back-ups to protect data on the network. 2. Protect the network from viruses and hackers with antivirus software and train users to avoid security fail. 3. Remove old junk files from the network. 4. Don’t try to improve performance out of the network configuration. It may cause more harm than benefit. 5. Don’t install the latest network upgrades until necessary. It may cause more harm than benefit. 6. Give all involved parties at least two days notice before shutting down the network for repair. 7. Keep an adequate supply of spare parts: wires, switches and cables. 8. Obey all proper licenses on the network. 9. Train all users of the network. 10. All network documentation must be written down on paper.
